Jason Sticky never intended to own his business. But after working in the Mine Studio in his local color in Geneva, Illinois, he could not resist much involvement.
Sticky is an veteran from the Navy who had a career in retail management. He took a break to become a father living in the house, then returned to the workforce in 2018, arranging his local color Mine Studio. “Because of my retail background,” he says, “I saw what they were not doing with branding and marketing.” When he found out that the location was for sale, he wanted.
Sticky and her husband decided to take a massive risk: they invested most of their 401 (K) savings to buy the studio. The first few years were painful. But trapped in improving the trapped work and promoting the feeling of society. The franchise was eventually obtained by the turning brand, the main painting company, and was important to help the newly owned sticky open second.

Here, he divides a lesson from an unexpected business personality.
What was the way to step into the role of the franchise?
The first three years, it was a lot of work for 24/7. It’s not like I was there all day, but I was certainly there every day, just to ensure that things were being implemented properly.
Was there a special challenge that caused you to run early?
Under the original franchisor (before sale to turn brands), there were many things that were “wild, wild west” and people were allowed only to allow whatever they want. It didn’t get much help, and there was really no focus on the branding, which we are now focusing on with this new franchisor.
How did you have to adopt your business style in a traditional retail way?
When I first opened, I will do everything in my strength so that the refund cannot be made. I get some negative reviews online on such things. And woke up in a day and thought, It’s just ceramics. Now, if anyone wants a refund, he gets it. I do not argue with them, because I want them to be happy so they can come back. If you fight with them and work as they are trying to get something on you.

How much does these soft skills make your industry difference?
This is different from ordinary retail, where if you make sure that everything is correct, it is clean, and the staff is friendly, then everything should fall to its place. In this kind of business, you have to contact your community. It’s not just about coming and spending money and going. The staff has entertained users. We hired an assistant manager that really makes it a personal relationship with everyone. There are a lot of stars reviews with his name. He and a couple of new fares are feeling that this is not just a place where you are coming to paint, but you are coming to paint with friends – and employees are also your friends.
What is the reason for opening a second place in 2023?
I always said that I will never get second place, just because the staff is the biggest task. But a few years ago, I was like that, I want to open another. I don’t know what I think of it, but I just came to this kick and was like that, We can completely do it.
Are you extended?
In my view, for now, this is the place where we are, yes. But I will never say.
