“It’s not funny, okay?” CEO of a non -profit search engine based in Christian Crool, Berlin EcziaSays about his company’s unprecedented request that Google should be given 10 -year -old “Stress” of Google’s Chrome browser’s Chrome browser instead of forcing a competitor.
The idea is certainly ridiculous, but also smart.
On Thursday, Ecosia announced that he had sent a chrome proposal to US judge Mehta. It is expected that the judge will rule the treatment of his 2024 historic decision this month that Google has an illegal monopoly in the Internet search and advertising.
The treatment that the Justice Department asked for will force Google to divide itself from Chrome. Google has not agreed to do so (and has vowed to appeal the original decision in 2024). Still, rivals have been in line to buy chrome since then. Both the open and the hassle have said they will buy it. Last week, the trouble also offered $ 34.5 billion in cash.
The offer of anxiety is not too low (not mentioned, more than billions of troubles to date). RBC analyst Brad Erickson speculated in a research note that “we think the opening will likely be ready to pay a significant price for it.”
Ekosia believes that Chrome is on the way to generating $ 1 trillion over the next decade, and auction can cost “hundreds of billions”.
That is why, at facial costs, Ecosia has been demanded to be handed over to Chrome for free – which includes about 60 % control of the revenue generated by its consumers – it looks ridiculous.

The proposal promises to spend these billions on climate projects, as is the common mission of Ecosia. Established in 2009, non -profit donates millions every month and has more than 35 countries in relations with local communities and NGOs. It describes the projects in this chrome proposal, including the protection of rain forests, the planning of global trees and the safety of agricultural areas, legal action against pollution, and investment in Green A -tech.
The remaining 40 % ($ 400 billion, Ecosia says, based on the $ 1 trillion estimates) will be paid to Google. Google will maintain the ownership of intellectual property, and can even become a default search engine. When the decade ends, the Stress can be transferred to another, or otherwise it can be reviewed.
Ecosia, which uses Google to strengthen its search engine, is already in contributing to the revenue shares with tech giant. And it already offers its browser made on the chromium open source engine that strengthens Chrome. That is why he thinks that the Stress Idea is not so out. “We will be happy to manage Chrome for them,” says Corol.
Nevertheless, Karol has acknowledged that the big goal is to consider alternatives to the judge’s sales or spinning distribution options. They will put the powers of Chrome and their billions in the big tech pocket.
He says, “We have a track record of making possible things possible. Does the judge think,” Who knows what it can get out of? “
