When we fall into the world of Marcus Seligar, it is interesting to find the creative process behind its imaginary gestures. We have raised many questions before the artist to expose the complexities of his perspective.
How do you get inspiration when you make a gesture?
Marcus Seliger: My inspiration is obtained from various sources – books, cultural experiences, spirituality, foreign work, and everyday conversations. It is usually a mixture of deliberate intentions and sudden ideas.
The microcomos series comes from the collection of the whole, the whole of the book that my father used to read in childhood, then I inherited him. He encouraged my father to get a career in science, which was also my way at a formal level, so there was some influence there.
How do you start your indicators?
Marcus Seliger: Many of my indicators come from the titles that are already in my mental space-science, consciousness, spirituality, or just some wild science-fi ideas. I also pick the themes from the community, such as thread, QTS, or art challenges that catch my eye. Some days, it’s just about the mood and what it feels right. I often start chatting with GPT or Grook, then use the ‘SREF’ tool for mixing and repetition.
Over time I have seen something – Tile #3 in the Midgorn Grid often feels like the strange data. Many times it leads to an interesting alternative direction. For the second time, this is just noise. And occasionally, I will leave a random 64-character string-not just for unexpected ability, but also because it gives me a new seed to connect with more deliberate idea. It often adds an unexpected twist in the structure, shape or environment that I have not planned.
Do you often need to improve indicators?
Marcus Seliger: Improving the indicator is a fluid process for me. Some are short and straightforward, while others are ready in detailed explanation. Recently, I have already developed the Ideas structure and then turned them into a midwife. It keeps the creative process fresh and attractive.
