YouTube is developing a new feature for US users who relies on machine learning to assess their age, without providing any personal information. The alphabetical company says it is bringing the same technology used in other regions that are suitable for young users on the platform to display the content, while disables personalized ads. Once YouTube identifies an account used by a teen, it will automatically turn on the digital welding features of the platform, which is designed to prevent excessive use. The “frequent views” of materials related to weight and physical appearance will also be reduced, and YouTube will prevent some types of videos from appearing in their recommendations. Personal advertisements will also be disabled on adolescent accounts.
AI -powered systems can also make errors while rating signal -based accounts, and YouTube says it will offer users a way to confirm their age. Adults who have been wrongly identified as adolescents can provide a government ID card, or a credit card to the platform so that they can retrace their account as an adult. Once this solution is resolved, YouTube will be re -accessed to limited videos and short videos.
YouTube CEO Neil Mohan has revealed months after months of new age estimates after announcing this feature to consumers in February. The company’s previous efforts to limit the content available to underage users include monitoring accounts and content restrictions that were developed in September 2024.
