A verification tool through Ethiopia Devs taught itself, better AUTH, PUBLY XV, YC deposits $ 5 million

It is rare to see a solo founder building a widely adopted developer infrastructure tool. Even more, if the founder is from Africa. Barrett AngidaThe programmer, a self -taught program from Ethiopia, is quietly building what some developers say is the best verification tool they have ever used.

Anjada’s launch, Better writerOpen Source Framework offers how the developers promise how to manage the user’s verification, and have received the attention of some big name investors. It has recently raised about $ 5 million in financing seeds from Peak XV (formerly Sequoia India and South East Asia), Y Combantinator, P1 Ventures, and Chapter I.

But the most interesting thing here is not who is on the startup hat table: Angida says it made the entire product back home in Ethiopia before stepping into the United States.

Aidada told Tech Crunch that he had started programming in 18 years after refusing to help create an e -commerce search app, and he started working on the project itself. It pushed some remote software jobs and eventually created a web analytical platform that could monitor the customer behavior on their website.

But during his various jobs, Angida says he kept watching a problem everywhere: verification. Each app needs to manage how users sign in and out, reset the password, and sometimes the organizers need to allow permission and the user’s role. But he found that the existing tools were either very limited or tough – companies like the Auth0, Firebase and Nextawat offer organized services, but they store user data externally, limit customization, and are expensive on a scale.

“I need an organization feature,” Angida told Tech Crunch. This is a very common case for most sauces applications, but it was not available to these suppliers. ” “So I had to make it from the beginning. It took me almost two weeks, and I remember thinking, ‘It’s crazy. It has to be a better way to solve it.’

He then terminated the project and began working on a type script-based verification framework that would allow developers to access user data through open source libraries, issues of using ordinary permits-such as teams and role-banks, and plug-in.

Angida said, “The idea was that you could add modern features to only two or three lines of the code.

Why the developers like it

Working with his bedroom mostly in Ethiopia over six months, Angida created the first version of the library that would become a better writer. When he posted it in the Gut Hub in September 2024, the developers quickly saw his ability.

Since then, Better Eyote has claimed 150,000+ weekly downloads, 15,000+ gut hub stars, and a community, a community, consisting of more than 6,000 detacked members.

Batter Oth’s pitch is easy: Enforce everything directly to your database from the plain verification flow to the enterprise grade system and embed it all on the back end. Unlike host services, Batter Oth is an open source library that the developers can integrate directly into their database into their code base, keeping all the user’s data based on their database. For companies who are cautious to hand over important user information to third parties, this feature is an important point.

The library has also found unexpectedly detected between the initial phase AI startups, which needs to be prepared the customs certification flow that is combined with the proprietary API, handles the token safely, and is able to scale without increasing the high costs.

“We have first heard about the product we have worked with,” said Arno Sahu, a PC XV partner and former Principal of the Wi -Combinist, said.

The better author has identified the first direct investment of peak XV in an African founder.

Angida says that the author better, who is currently free to use, will focus on improving its basic features and launching a paid enterprise infrastructure, which is plugged in its open source base. This will give the developers themselves flexibility or choose better cloud adson as needed.

He is also wondering how to scale the sense of product community without trade. On the roadmap, therefore, the code base is hiring a small team to maintain, increase documents, and help enterprise users. For now, though, Angida is still writing most of the code itself.

Batter Oth, who has just graduated from the recent YC’s Spring Beach, is the beginning of the third Ethiopia passing through the Excellers, after the drone -based digital health platform, and the delivery of the Food Delivery platform BEU.

“It seems important only because people like its products, but because of representing it,” said Angida. “Many Ethiopian founders are not building global products. For many, it seems almost impossible. So seeing that Krishna hopes to try to be more expensive.”
