Caught the guard? May have found your next big idea

They have their own opinions expressed by business partners.

Being a business means that many emotions are encountered, sometimes in quick succession: frustration, inspiration, exhaustion, happiness, satisfaction, anger, excitement, frustration. This is a roller coaster.

Success depends on being able to handle these feelings, and do not allow the prisoner to be unbalanced for the height and less. But there is a emotion that I always make a special note, every time I feel: Wonder.

Surprisingly, which indicated me to start my company, Jotiff. This is a matter of 2005, and I was working as a developer in a New York media company, which coded a custom web form for editors who needed them quickly. One day, after making another one and the same shape, I did what a burned developer would do-I searched for a device to simplify this process.

Nothing came out of this search, and it was there: surprise. Could it probably not be such a tool? This didn’t happen. And at the same time when I knew I had a good idea.

Over time, I realized that surprise is not just a sharp emotion. This is a signal. Proof that something has been ignored, or that an assumption that was widely accepted, in fact, may be wrong. And business people, that moment – if you know that there is a way to pay attention – something bigger can be the starting point.

When a surprise is a target

When something surprises me, I don’t brush it – I investigate. I have learned that these unexpected moments often have more insights than the mental storms. If you stumble with an idea, the next step is to build the least viable product, or MVP, and bring it into the hands of consumers as soon as possible.

Obviously, not every surprise will cause any product – many MVPs are eliminated in water, which is why I recommend making them quickly. But the process of noting and reflecting unexpectedly produces a kind of mental radar, which lacks the opportunity of others.

This is true for less pleasant surprises. I once had a Jotatarian customer-ask a well-known brand-me to send sales personnel to his office to find out more about his other products. I was completely caught from the guard. Sales Spell? We had no sales people. By that time, JotFire was a complete self -service.

I was so stunned that I did not send anyone, and did not go myself. Wonder! We lost the client by a contestant, with a sales team. But that moment remained with me and became the motivator for the construction of the Jotform Enterprise, which is growing so fast today that it will overtake our self -service version in a few years.

Such surprises, pleasant or otherwise, are rarely random. They examine assumptions and expose blind locations. And if you are paying attention, they can reveal what should happen next.

Wonderful

Obviously you can’t make a surprise plan, of course, but you may be better to find it. Over the years, I have learned to make what I think about myself as a “amazing radar”: a system that maintains me unexpectedly, even in normal moments.

The first step for me is to do the usual work, or in particular – even – even – or in particular – be curious. At these times, it can be easy to close your critical thinking brain. But these are often the best moments to see ineligible or strange patterns. Why does this process take so much time? Why do we always do this?

This method of thinking is what is called the early mentality, and if you are not in your field, it can be difficult to adopt. Once we learn a lot of knowledge in a particular area, our brain shortcuts, which over time, also reduce our ability to surprise. It is easy to stop asking how matters are done.

One of the strategies to prevent your brain from slipping into the auto pilot is to audit a time, which can help you know where you are sinking. There are a lot of platforms for this, such as a re -claim or toggle, but what does it matter that you can clearly understand what works are doing a lot in your day.

From there, look for automation or AI tools that can relieve your burden. If your last search has been a few months, do again – AI technology is getting faster, and the options that may not be present may not be present last week can now be well.

If you are still coming short, consider it a potential opportunity. Someone will probably finally fill this falsehood. Why not you?

It is also important to get out of your comfort area. Apparently read books and articles on the topics associated with your work. Talk to people from different industries, with different skills or whose ideas are not with you.

Will it be anxious? Of course, that’s the case. Surprisingly is on the edge of expectations, just beyond what you thought you knew. If you are just familiar, you will be rarely surprised. And without surprise, innovation is unlikely. As much as you train yourself to feel unexpectedly, you will start seeing it as a leader, not as a disruption.
