Jane was known for her silent eyes—eyes that seemed to hold maps of places no one had ever seen. He called himself a dream cartographer. His task was not to explore the lands but to chart the emotions, memories and forgotten gestures that drifted like faint constellations in sleeping minds.

Every night, she sat in front of her glowing leather, waiting for the whispers to rise from the collective unconscious. When they came, they formed streaks of light and black, swirling in shapes that defied reason yet felt deeply familiar. Grief became a shoreline. Happiness shines like a stream of gold. Repentance folded into the mountainside that disappeared into the mist.

Gene maps were not meant to be read, only felt. Those who touched them claimed to have heard echoes of voices lost but lost—an aunt’s laugh, a child’s first word, the hiss before a final goodbye.

As he aged, his own dreams began to merge with maps. One night, the ink refused to dry. Alive, alive, alive, absorbing his breath, his pulse, his memory. By morning, Jane had disappeared, leaving behind a final map – the first map to draw itself. It still glows faintly, changing with every dream ever dreamed.

My name is Jane.
