Drift: AI agent to run robot simulations 10x faster and more reliably.

by SkillAiNest

Questions:
-> Ubuntu + x86_64 only. No ARM, no Mac (unless you run a VM) which immediately puts off a large portion of hobbyists and researchers.
-> Immediate sensitivity is a real concern if vague cues yield generic results, the “just explain it in plain English” pitch needs some asterisk.
-> Multi-robot setups are experimental, leaving a big gap for anything other than single-robot prototyping.
-> Every prompt requires internet to process so your AI copilot will go dark without a connection, even for local sims.
-> Still early (v1.0.15 beta) expect rough edges, but production teams should be careful
-> 60% stateframe simulation as a problem to skip, not the skill to build engineers who badly skip this struggle on the transition from sim to real.
-> Terminal only, workflow specific to Gazebo is a strict limitation if your stack uses Isaac Sim or Webots
-> And any proprietary AI agents in your core workflow = vendor lock-in risk
Curious how it handles URDF validation and collision mesh validation?
None of these are deal breakers for students or solo researchers. But for engineering teams who take it seriously, these constraints matter.
Answers:
1. Our early access is for robotics developers who already use ROS and simulators, so they are already on Linux. Most robotics frameworks are optimized and built for Linux. You’ll have a hard time figuring things out on a Mac with all the open source tools and libraries.
2. Definitely. The more specific you are with defining what you want, the better it will grow. “Explain in plain English” means it’s better than before where devs have to fumble on their own.
3. Yes, and that’s why we’re fixing it, and making it better.
4. We are working to bring integration for local deployments.
5. We are monitoring all bugs and crashes in production.
6. Mastering simulation skills is not to be abandoned at all, we want to sharpen skills with drift instead, so that engineers can focus on the physics and behavior of the robots actually in the sim.
7. That’s why we’re bringing MuJoCo, Isaac Sim and other simulators and plugin support soon.
8. If the vendors are doing your work for months to days, then it is not a concern. And we’ll always have competitors so you have tons of options! 🙂
