GhostlyX: The first privacy analysis without cookies or clutter

On market saturation: You’re right that privacy-based analytics is not a new idea. Comprehensible, Fathom, and Parrish all exist and are well-made products. GhostlyX isn’t trying to be the first. It strives to be the most complete option in the same privacy-first space. The honest differentiation is in the feature set at the price point, not the basic concept.

On Cookieless vs. Cookie: This is a real distinction, and one worth clearly stating. Cookie-based analytics (Google Analytics, Matomo’s default) sets a persistent identifier in the browser. This means:

  • Under the GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive (UK PECR) and the CCPA, you are legally required to obtain consent before leaving this cookie. This is the cookie banner that users hate.

  • Visitors who reject the banner are simply not counted, which reduces your data.

Cookie-free analytics (GhostlyX, Plausible, Fathom) use a daily rotating, irreversible hash of the IP address + user agent + site-specific salt. No personal data is stored. A consent banner is not legally required. Your data is complete because no one can opt-out of tracking they aren’t prompted to accept.

The average developer may not care about cookies, but the average website owner cares about not having to pay a lawyer to review their consent flow, and about keeping accurate data.

What GhostlyX specifically adds to Fathom/Fathom: The honest answer is bundled features. Uptime monitoring, funnels, traffic spike alerts, team roles, a TV/real-time mode, and a REST API are all included at price points where Capable or Fathom either charge more or don’t offer them at all. It’s not a fundamentally different product, it’s more complete at a competitive price.

What GhostlyX does not do: It is not open source at this time. If self-hosting with complete data autonomy and access to the source is a priority, Acceptable or Matomo are better answers.
