I tried Ray Ben Meta Directly Translation and Google translates still wins

At the end of April, Meta released a refreshment for its incredibly popular ray Ben Meta Smart glasses (9 329 in Amazon) Although these interesting new Android XR do not run on the platform, they have been a very successful admission to the growing AR glass market. Thanks to this latest update, the glass now has a new feature: directly translated.

Repeatedly, as a passenger, I relies heavily on translation apps – especially Google translation. Can Kiran-Ben Metas better be better than translating Google for my conversation with people who do not speak English? He certainly looked as if he made the convenience of placing glasses on my face, making it for an undeniable translation drain.

Once you install the latest update on your glasses, Meta AI app (First known as Meta View) will inform you that your ban on your ray now supports direct translation. You will then be guided through the setup process, the first of which is to tell Meta Ai what language you speak (English, in my case).

The next step app has to tell which language you want to translate. So far, the meta only offers the least selection of non -English languages: French, Spanish and Italian. Hopefully, this list will spread over time, but for now, that’s all you get. For this experience, I chose the French as a translation language.

Once you complete these steps, the app will download your selected language pack on your phone. This allows you to use the service even when you are away from cellular data. The pack should be very small, as the French download only took a few seconds on Wi -Fi.

That’s all it seems to be sorting with a direct translation on glass meta glasses. But how does it actually work? Well, things went down in the same place.

It didn’t take long for things to get damaged after setting up all this. The instructions in the app explain that there are two ways to launch a translation session. First of all, down the image of your glasses, the new translation button on the device page. The second is to wear your glasses and say, “Hey Meta,” wait for the tone, and then say “Start directly”.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how many times I (and my partner) tried to mobilize the translation session through a voice command, he never worked. The voice of Meta AI always responds with it, “I can’t help this kind of request.” So, by leaving, we left for a bad start.

Thankfully, using these app buttons to start the session has done exactly the work. Once I entered, I forced my partner to speak French when I spoke English. My partner’s French is slightly rusty, but the app began to do a good job to find out what it was trying to say.

Basically, I used to speak English, and the Meta AI app immediately translated it into French. After that, my partner could see the French translation on my phone screen. When he responded verbally in the French language, I could both see an English translation on my phone and listen to me from Ray Benons through Meta AI. It was also very fast,-not fast, but quite fast for comfortable conversation.

Finally, though, he said something very wrong and laughed at his poor pronunciation. For some reason, his laughter sent the translator into the teezie. See screenshot below:

It was not an ideal result. The translator’s understanding of our words did the right thing, but human conversation is not always the only words. The fact is that when someone starts laughing, AI has to do what I do not want to use in a legitimate conversation with a stranger while traveling.

I want to give a meta credit where credit is owed: The direct translation of the Ray Ben Meta Smart Glasses is basically fine. I could not mobilize it with the sound command, but with the app button it was actually working, and it was quick and accurate to translate from French to English. However, when someone starts laughing, it is not ideal to go out of control.

Limited language support is not very good. I go to Berlin for IFA every year, so not having access to German is going to break the contract for me.

But, in fact, the biggest problem here is that there is nothing about Google translation. This app has more reliable and accurate translations. It supports 249 languages ​​to this day, which describes the most remarkable three non -English language options. It also supports broadcasting audio translations from the phone so that everyone can hear, or push audio directly to the airbids, prepare a copy of the translation of smart glasses for me.

Things would have been different if the meta’s smart glass had the capabilities. If I talk to someone while putting my phone in front of me and reading it for myself does not need to divert it, and instead I can see the translation into my glasses, it will be an interesting suggestion. But Ray Ben Meta Smart Glass has no display capacity, so it never happens. In fact, all this system is to add an extra piece of hardware to a system that is already better using Google Translate on a phone.

Although this whole experience has made me excited for the Samsung project Mohan and other Android XR -based systems, although, a couple with a display that automatically translates the indicator and speaks into my ear will be very good. But before we are in the meta -environmental system, we will need a new version of ray bun meta glasses. Until then, I will continue to rely on Google Translate for these conditions.
