In the early days, the photographer was the first and most important technician. Camera, optics, chemistry. Everyone demands exact skills and special knowledge. But as the photography became more accessible and the process became easier, the photographers gradually stopped becoming lonely. His role began to capture a decisive moment with technical skills.
The photographer imagined the frame, chose the moment, and pressed the shutter. Yet a gallery wall, a wonderful, changing negative in the final, was the domain of other experts. Master printers and skilled lab technicians arranged to exhibit, masked, dodging and burning – these were their techniques, their visual words to revive the photographer’s vision. While the photographer was the only author, he didn’t work alone. Everything started with the shutter pressing process – the exact immediate when the photographer announced, “Now.”
