Jane touched the surface of the image, and a wave of heat passed through her finger.

Jain was once known as a “resonant conductor”. Her gift was strange – she could hear the echoes of emotions trapped in forgotten moments. When people lost something he couldn’t name — a memory, a voice, a shadow of love — they came to him. Jane would close her eyes, and the air around her would faintly vibrate, like a distant string being pulled. Gradually, those buried sounds will form a kind of song, delicate and trembling.

One day, a man brought him a photograph that had been damaged over time. It showed a smiling woman whose face was blurred in the background. “I don’t remember who she was,” he said. Jane touched the surface of the image, and a wave of heat passed through her finger. For a brief second, his own reflection merged into the woman’s form. He smelled the woman’s laughter, the sunlight behind him, orange peels and smoke. Then came a sudden rush of fear—an incomplete goodbye.

That night, Jane dreamed of standing inside a storm of voices. The boundaries between his memories and others dissolved. She could no longer tell which sorrows. By morning, she realized her gift wasn’t about retrieving memories, but about sharing them. Each echo that revived him, until his own image became a collage of countless forgotten lives – blurred, trembling, still alive.

My name is Jane.
