  • The Gmail for Android is checking the button directly as a new “Mark” button, allowing users to manage their inbox without opening the app.
  • It seems that A/B testing continues with very few users in this feature, as it is not widely available despite being on the latest app version.
  • With this possible addition, the Gmail Android app will be in line with its iOS counterpart and other email clients who already offer this easy shortcut.

If your email inbox is filled with messages every day, it can be a job to pass on them all. One way to deal with this arrival effectively is to mark some emails as “read”, without removing them from having more important issues in your inbox. Nevertheless, you can often tell if an email just needs your immediate attention from the sender, the subject line, and the first few lines of the message. Unfortunately, if you use Gmail for Android and want to mark the email as a reading, you have to open the app, because there is no shortcut in its notification. Thankfully, it can change soon.

Earlier today, X user Kurt Gomez informed us that he was looking at the “Read” button in his Gmail notifications. He told us that the button only appeared for an account, which shows that this feature is being developed on an account basis. He also confirmed that the latest version of Gmail for Android, version 2025.06.15. I have the same version installed, but I don’t see the “Read” button for any of my accounts.

In addition to our tipster, we have just seen another person reporting the “Reading as Mark” in Gmail. Another x User, Gallerway too The claims But button is not shared but did not share the screenshot or describe their app version. With very few notifications, it is likely to test the feature with a small group of users to assess engagement, which is Google A/B. This feature will be potentially popular, as it is commonly found in other Android email apps and is already available in Gmail for iOS.

If you look at the new “Read as Mark” button in your Gmail notifications, tell us in the comments below! If you don’t have a feature yet, you can automatically test an app. It can replace Gmail notifications from a customer, which includes the “Read” button.

Otherwise, you have to stay with the old ways to mark the e -mail. You can either open a direct email (either from notification or inbox) or use a swipe indicator, provided you have created this action in Gmail settings.

It is hoped that the Gmail app for Google Android will continue to add such quality life features. Although Gmail has some new features of AI, I prefer the company’s work more on implementing the basics, such as the ability to edit filters and labels.
