Unioned quality insurance workers on Zenimx Media today announced that they have reached a temporary deal agreement with Zenimax’s parent company Microsoft. Workers representing US communications workers have spent two years discussing the deal, which they say “set new standards for the industry”, which includes new wage contracts and policies on AI tools.
According to the Union, the new deal includes new minimum wages, increased wages in the board, discretionary dismissal concerns, complaint procedures and a new credit policy that ensures that QA workers are included in the credit for a game. The deal also includes the first unanimous rules about the use of AI in the workplace.
The CWA has already reported that long dialogue has not moved forward due to disagreement over wages. Even the members of the union voted in favor of allowing a strike in April, noting that they could not agree with Microsoft on the lack of remote work powers and the change of outsourced contract labor workers.
CWA President Claude Cummins said in a statement, “Workers in the video game industry are once again demonstrating that collective power works. What is this agreement when the workers stand together and refuse to accept the stagnation, even if they are concerned about the use of AI in the workplace.
